Description

Avonia papyracea (also known as Anacampseros papyracea or “Karoo Gansmis”) is a rare, slow-growing, dwarf succulent endemic to South Africa. It is characterized by small, silvery-white, scale-covered stems (stipules) covering minute green leaves and a tuberous root. They are highly drought-tolerant, require excellent drainage, and bloom with small white flowers . The succulent produces solitary, creamy white to greenish-white flowers that often self-pollinate (cleistogamous), opening briefly during the afternoon in summer and autumn. Native to the Richtersveld, southern Namibia, and Bushmanland, it thrives in rocky quartz areas. It is suitable for a warm, bright windowsill, requiring excellent drainage, limited water, and high light to prevent etiolation (stretching).

Plants on offer are seed grown an are approx. 4 years old.
