Description
Frailea castena v Albicarpa is small in size and several remain solitary, never outgrowing 4-5 cm diameter. Stems are chocolate brown or dark reddish-green with 8-15 flat ribs.
Its flowers are large, bright yellow, and often self-fertile (cleistogamous), meaning they can set seed without fully opening. The growth habit is solitary or sparingly offsetting and slow-growing. It requires regular watering during the growing season when nights are above 10∘C, but should be kept dry in winter, especially when showing signs of shrinking or wrinkling. The plant prefers bright light and fast-draining soil, ideally a succulent mix. It is native to Brazil and Uruguay.
Plants on offer are grown from seed and are approx 3 to 4cm in diameter.
