Description

Quaqua mammillaris is a much-branched, robust succulent shrub, up to 50 cm high, and 50-70 cm across, branched in a bushy manner which root from the primary stem only. The leaves are transmuted into hard thorns. Bunches of 3-15 velvety purple-brown flowers appears in autumn (April to May in South Africa) in the upper 2/3 of the stem, and open simultaneously. Water sparingly from spring to autumn only when soil is dry. Quite cold resistant (But needs low ambient humidity). Plant in a sandy mineral rich soil that is well draining. Reduce watering in winter as they are mostly dormant and will slowly awaken in the warmer months. Plants on offer are seed grown, approx. 3 years old and 12 – 20cm tall.
