Description

Conophytum obcordellum is a small, flowering succulent plant native to the Western Cape of South Africa. It’s a member of the Aizoaceae family and can grow up to 10 cm tall and 1 m wide. The plant forms glossy, pebble-shaped growths with many dots and lines, and is often described as extremely decorative even without flowers. In summer they will go dormant and get a dry papery covering that tends to act like sun screen to protect them from the intense rays of the sun. They originate in a predominately winter rainfall area an thus watering must be carefully controlled in summer. Lightly water once every 2 weeks in summer or when you notice them getting wrinkly and dry. In winter, at least once per week. Ensure the soil is dry before watering as root rot will set in of they sit in wet soil for too long. They prefer a mineral based sandy soil mix that allows for good drainage. They tend to flower from April through June.
